Equine Therapy: Our Horses and How They Help Us Feel Good

Many people believe that horses have a mystical element about them. They have a way in which they have a positive affect on people, in different ways, often expressed via equine therapy programs.

It is so true. I have the priviledge to be the guardian for Cody, Chiwi and Zeus and they affect me daily in many positive ways. There is nothing more calming and inspiring than being present with the horses, even if it is just for short minute or two whilst I hand out feeds...

Equine Therapy - Our horses
Horses being horses

Horses have a way to make us move from the outer busy world around us into the inner world of being present. They almost command that from us without saying a word.

We simply comply automatically when we stand close to them, it's almost like a natural law.

Equine Therapy: Explaining some of this 'magic' with science

Horses eminate a strong electromagnet field around their bodies due to their sheer size. This electromagnetic field syncs with ours when we get close to them.

They naturally live in the present moment, their hearts beat coherently (unless they are in flight for a few seconds or minutes) and consequently they help us fall into the same rythm around them. Our bodies (or more specifically, our hearts) become more conherent around horses.

The result?

Calmness, co-herence and feelings of joy and clarity.

When we've spent time with a horse, we often walk away feeling refreshed, relaxed, energised and clear in our minds. Our energy flows happily and the world feels lighter.

They provide us with a place to decompress and recharge without asking for anything in return.

Conclusion

This incredible invisible affect horses have on us, just by being horses is just the beginning of how they help people. They are our mirrors too. They show us things we don't always see about ourselves (aka Equine Therapy helps guide us to see these things) and help us to reflect, adapt and empower ourselves through their lessons.
